Software Training for Students (STS)
STS offers free technology training and project support to UW-registered students. Its services include enrollment-based workshops, customizable technology training, and individual project support. These services are described more fully in the sections below.
Any student with an active UW NetID can attend STS’s FREE software workshops. We offer a wide range of 2-4 hour workshops on Photoshop, Excel, HTML and more. Check out the schedule and register.
Custom Technology Workshops
If you are a UW-Madison instructor or a member of a registered student organization, Student Technology Training can teach your students the tech skills they need to succeed, helping you focus on the big ideas, not the technology. Find out more or submit a request form today.
The manual and class files used for the free technology courses are also available for downloading on the individual course webpages.
Online Technology Training (Lynda.com)
Student Technology Training helps provide a campus-wide subscription to Lynda.com, giving you free access to a wide variety of training videos and class files. Trust us. It's awesome. Students, faculty, and staff can all use it. Find out more or access Lynda.com now.
Student Online Course Support (SOCS)
The first Student Online Course Support (SOCS) training program began in August 2013 and the last training program occurred in January 2015. The SOCS’ mission was to create a pool of student employees with specialized technology training in order to assist instructors in adapting course material into effective online and blended learning experiences.
Due to budget cuts, the SOCS program has been discontinued. If you have questions related to SOCS such as confirming a graduate’s credentials, please contact Cathy Cuccia in DoIT Academic Technology.
