Software Training for Students (STS)

STS offers free technology training and project support to UW-registered students. Its services include enrollment-based workshops, customizable technology training, and individual project support. These services are described more fully in the sections below.

Technology Workshops​

Any student with an active UW NetID can attend STS’s FREE software workshops. We offer a wide range of 2-4 hour workshops on Photoshop, Excel, HTML and more. Check out the schedule and register.

"Ask a Trainer" Project Support

Stuck on a technology-related project? Student Technology Training's Ask A Trainer program is what you need. All you need to do is send Student Technology Training an email or set up a one-on-one appointment with a Student Technology Training trainer. An expert trainer will get you back on track.

Custom Technology Workshops

Online Technology Training (

Student Online Course Support (SOCS)

Student Online Course Support (SOCS) is an immersive two-week training program offered free of charge by the Division of Information Technology (DoIT), three times per year. The goal of the program is to prepare students for campus jobs which assist instructors in adapting course material into effective online and blended learning experiences.

SOCS is a highly selective program, and participants are eligible to earn DoIT certification. During the SOCS program, students gain experience with a wide range of technology tools and techniques, including course/learning management systems, video and audio production, basic web design, basic graphic design, and interactive presentations.
